The Beginning

It was the year 1995 my dad had bought the just released Suzuki Samurai motor bike, I was just over 10 years old and that is as far as I can recall travelling to attend yoga classes, getting up early in the morning around 5:30 AM, getting ready to travel to classes that used to be from 6AM to 7AM. My Dad used to work for ITC and yoga classes for employees and their family members at Clark's Institute Community Center was one of the perks for being employed at ITC, nevertheless my Dad still used to offer some fee saying it was Gurudakshina to our Guru. Our Yoga guru was trained from Vivekananda Yoga Kendra, Bangalore and he followed the routines prescribed by them. He was well versed with Yagasanas, Pranayamas and Kriyas the primary pillars of Yoga. We used to start with Gayatri Mantra and then warm up exercises before we jumped into the yoga routine that follows, Surya Namaskara, Savasana, Standing Asanas (Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Natragasana, Arda Chakrasana, Chakrasana, Ardha Kati Trikonasana, Padahastasana, Trikonasana, Garudasana, Parivrtta Trikonasana), Sitting Asanas (Vajrasana, Ustrasana, Supta Vajrasana, Paschimottanasana),  Laying on your back (Pawanmuktasana, Sarvangasana, Halasana,  Chakrasana, Naukasana), Laying on your stomach (Bhujangasana, Shalabasana, Viparita Shalabhasana, Dhanurasana), End with sitting Asanas (Ardha Matsyendrasana, Mayurasana, Sirsasana) and finally end it with long Chanting of Om Kaar. This is what we called the "Daily Routine", we also had 1 hr special routine which had a complete set of new asanas that our guru used to teach ever week or alternate week and then the Kriyas which we did like once in blue moon. We attended yoga classes for about 6 to 7 years. We were so good at it that we did yoga where ever we went, be it School Sports days or NCC Camps, PU College cultural fest, Engineering College cultural fest and it slowed down a little once I joined Accenture as a software engineer, I am Back.
